It Starts on the Ranch
Cross Creek Ranch sits in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains near Hesperus, Colorado, ten miles west of Durango. Our family has worked this land since the late 1800s — our cattle brand was registered in Colorado in 1899 — and that heritage shapes how we raise every animal today: patiently, and with room to roam.
Genetics That Make the Marbling
We raise two kinds of Wagyu. Our Full Blood Wagyu is 100% purebred Japanese Black (Kuroge Washu), with a bloodline traceable straight back to Japan — the genetics behind Wagyu’s legendary marbling, where the fat is woven through the muscle instead of sitting around it. Our American Wagyu crosses that Japanese Wagyu with American Angus for a beautifully marbled cut with a richer, more familiar steak flavor. Both grade above USDA Prime.
Raised the Slow Way
Great beef begins with low-stress animals. Ours are raised in the clean air of the high country, with snow-fed mountain water and a natural diet of grass and quality hay — and never any added hormones or antibiotics. Less stress, and time done right, mean more tender and more flavorful beef. There are no shortcuts here, and that’s exactly the point.
